13C: Tactical
Automated Fire Control Systems Specialist
Major Duties: The tactical automated fire
control systems (TAFCS) specialist leads, supervises, or serves
as a member of an activity operating tactical fire direction
TAFCS equipment in a field artillery cannon battalion or higher
unit. Duties for MOS 13C at each skill level are:
- Skill Levels
- Skill Level 1 MOSC 13C1O. Establishes,
maintains, and operates radio and wire communications.
Assists in preparation of computer center for operation
and shutdown. Prepares TAFCS equipment for operation
to include cabling, installation, and removal procedures.
Operates and performs operator maintenance on section
vehicles and generators associated with the TAFCS computer.
Performs crew maintenance and participates in organized
maintenance of section equipment.
- Skill Level 2 MOSC 13C2O. Assists
fire control NCO in supervision of section training,
maintenance, and operations. Performs computer operations
and trains and supervises junior personnel. Initiates
computer center operations, including establishing control
information to establish communications with subscribers.
Recognizes partial or complete TAFCS failures and initiates
procedures to correct them.
- Skill Level 3 MOSC 13C3O. Assists
fire control NCO in supervision of section training,
maintenance, and operations. Inputs and retrieves initial
information and control and tactical data base information
into TAFCS. Operates TAFCS computer, including processing
technical and tactical data, artillery target intelligence,
fire planning data/survey information, and meteorological
data. Assists in the supervision and directs the construction,
camouflage, and defense of the section position. Supervises
the performance of operator, crew, and organizational
maintenance on section vehicles.
- Skill Level 4 MOSC 13C4O. Assists
operations NCO and officer in planning, preparation,
and execution of collective training activities of the
section. Supervises TAFCS computer operations. Prepares
the distribution of maps, operational information, and
training materials. Compiles information for and presents
briefings on current operations, situations, and after
action reports. Enforces compliance with security procedures
and regulations. Supervises the performance of operator,
crew, and organizational maintenance on section vehicles.
Physical demands rating and qualifications for initial
award of MOS. The tactical automated fire control systems
(TAFCS) specialist must possess the following qualifications:
(1) Physical Demands Rating:
moderately heavy
(2) Physical Profile: 222221
(3) Color discrimination of red/green
(4) Minimum score of 95 in aptitude
area FA.
(5) A security clearance of SECRET.
(6) A U.S. citizen.
(7) Formal training (completion of MOS 13C course under the
auspices of US Army Field Artillery School) mandatory.
