79T: Recruiting & Retention NCO


Major Duties: Recruits and retains qualified soldiers for entry into the Army National Guard in accordance with applicable regulations. Supervises recruiting and retention activities. Duties for MOS 79T at each skill level are:

  • Skill Levels
    • Skill Level 4 MOSC 79T4O. Prospects for leads. Prepares a prospect card. Refines leads. Conducts a school program. Determines basic enlistment eligibility. Pre-qualifies an individual for enlistment. Determines eligibility for extension or immediate reenlistment. Conducts enlistment, attrition management and retention interviews. Explains the selected reserve incentive program and the Montgomery GI Bill, initial entry training (IET) requirements, test results, enlistment options/programs/obligations, non-regular service retirement, employer support and reemployment rights. Evaluates unit sponsorship program. Briefs applicant on MEPS processing. Prepares and completes an enlistment packet. Counsels an applicant. Operates Guard Accession Information Network System. Establishes media contacts. Conducts direct mail campaigns. Evaluates the unit’s retention environment. Explains strength maintenance recognition programs. Conduct a strength maintenance interview and briefing. Develops a time management work plan. Trains unit first line leaders on career planning. Reviews request for separation/transfer/discharge. Reviews extension/immediate reenlistment procedures. Identifies alternatives to separation/transfer/discharge. Evaluates retention data, forms and files. Analyzes unit pay and performance data. Initiates security for family assistance operations. Explains the National Guard Family Program. Identifies resources for family assistance. Provides referral services for family members. Prepares DD Form 1172 (Application for Uniformed Services Identification Card--DEERS) for DEERS enrollment, issues ID cards for family members during mobilization. Develops a state marketing plan. Prepares and advertising budget. Determines regulatory requirements for advertising. Writes recruiting and retention advertising copy and script.

    • Skill Level 5 MOSC 79T5O. Performs duties shown in preceding level of skill and provides technical guidance to lower grade soldiers in the performance of all tasks. Determines strength maintenance objectives. Evaluates strength maintenance activities. Conducts Recruiting and Retention NCO training and orientation. Develops Recruiting and Retention NCO incentive program. Prepares Recruiting and Retention NCO training program. Reviews and approves a state marketing paln. Complies and maintains production data. Analyzes production management reports. Supervises Recruiting and Retention NCOs. Organizes and coordinates strength maintenance programs. Assigns duties and evaluates performance of subordinates. Inspects strength maintenance activities. Identifies, investigates, and takes corrective action in problem areas. Plans and conducts a strength maintenance seminars and conferences. Develops and directs training programs to assist Recruiting and Retention NCOs.

Physical demands rating and qualifications for initial award of MOS. The recruiting & retention NCO must possess the following qualifications:

(1) Physical Demands Rating: N/A

(2) Physical Profile: 132221

(3) Minimum score of 110 in aptitude area GT waivable to 100 with a score of 100 in aptitude area ST.

(4) Meet selection criteria in National Guard Regulations 601-1, 600-200, 600-5, 600-10, 601-280, and AR 135-18 as applicable.

(5) Formal training (successful completion of the MOS 79T Recruiting and Retention Course conducted under the auspices of the Recruiting and Retention School) is mandatory.

(6) Be a high school graduate with diploma; or have one year college with a high school GED with no waiver.
