42S: Special Band Member
Major Duties: The special band member performs
as a musician or in direct support of the mission of The U.S.
Army Band, U.S. Army Field Band, U.S. Military Academy Band,
or the 3rd Infantry (The Old Guard) Fife and Drum Corps. Use
of MOS 42S is restricted to the special bands only. Duties
for MOS 42S at each skill level are:
- Skill Levels
- Skill Level 3 MOSC 42S30. Performs
as instrumentalist or vocalist in field music detachment
or special band. Serves in administrative, training,
supply, or operations positions.
- Skill Level 4 MOSC 42S40. Performs
as solo instrumentalist or vocalist, NCO in an instrumental
group, band support technician, administrative and supply
support, library support, and a senior vocalist music
annotator / commentator.
- Skill Level 5 MOSC 42S50. Serves
as principal NCO in instrumental or vocal group, special
band, or support section.
Physical demands rating and qualifications for initial
award of MOS. The band member must possess the following
qualifications:
(1) Physical Demands Rating: N/A
(2) Physical Profile: 222222
(3) Be acceptable to commander of special band.
(4) Meet qualifications listed in AR 614-200 or the civilian
acquired skills criteria listed in AR 601-210.
MOS 42S was known as 02S before fiscal year 2005.
