Basic Training
Journal: Wednesday, September 3rd
We had the ability group run this morning. I moved up to
group A since I got less than 14:30 on the PT test 2 mile
run. We actually ran about 3 miles this time at a ~7 minute/mile
pace. I'm a roadguard so it's harder on me since I have to
cover intersections and catch up to the formation.
After breakfast we marched a short ways to fox holes and
we simulated the timed targets for BRM. We didn't have ammo,
it was just to get comfortable aiming at timed targets. We
had guys lay in a field and hold up target silhouettes in
timed intervals. We did the supported and unsupported prone
position.
After that we played a game—seriously! It's called
the weaponeer. It simulates actually shooting an M16 and it
will show you what you need to work on, like trigger squeeze,
sight picture, and steady position. It's pretty cool, you'll
even get to feel the kick when you squeeze the trigger. We'll
have something similiar set up in our bay soon so we can practice.
It's made by Nintendo by the way. It's not a video game, it's
a hands on thing. It has a fake M16 attached to a stick and
you point the sights at a screen and it will track the movements
of the M16.
After that we had lunch, then we did the shadow boxes that
we missed out on yesterday. We also cleaned our M16s and oiled
them.
