Basic Training
Journal: Tuesday, August 26th
We marched directly to the obstacle course today after waking
up. It was pretty short...you did some crawling under barbed
wire, climbed up a rope, did monkey bars, climbed over a wall,
stuff like that. It wasn't difficult at all. We went back
to the DFAC for breakfast, then we had a class on the Army
values again. After lunch it was off to the bayonet course.
For the bayonet course we had to climb over a wall, step
over obstacles, perry targets, stab dummies, crawl over a
hill, stuff like that. You can actually get a badge for the
bayonet course like the grenade and BRM badges, but our company
didn't time us so no one got a bayonet medal.
The bayonet course was pretty short, but it was in the 90s
that day which made it much worse to be running around in
that heat. After the bayonet course we marched back to the
barracks and ate dinner after changing into PTs. You get your
BDUs dirty during both courses we did today....and you get
sand all over.
