Basic Training
Journal: Monday, August 11th
For PT today we ran in formation for 2 miles. We alternate
our PT every other day. We'll run one day and do muscular
strength endurance the next day(situps, pushups, etc). I'm
starting to get shin splits since I'm not used to running
that much every other day.
We had a class today on abusing sick call and they also told
us what we need to improve on. About sick call: a lot of people
are going just for colds which I think is pretty pathetic.
Some people in your 60 man platoon will truly get sick though,
and almost everyone will get a cold. It's just a fact since
we come in contact with so many people every day.
We learned more marching movements today like left and right
flank. Learning some marching while in the delayed entry program(DEP)
is really useful to prepare for BT.
I think BT is more enjoyable than high school, call me crazy,
but that's how I feel. It goes by fast and you're constantly
busy doing something which makes the day fly by. Actually,
you do have to stand around at parade rest waiting for chow
and stuff like that, but it's okay.
No drill sergeant knows my name so that's a good thing. One
guy kept messing up so much that several drill sergeants knew
his name before the third day here. I only received one personal
smoking so far. Apparently I looked tired during morning PT
so they woke me up by having me do up downs and pushups. I
wasn't feeling tired either so I was surprised the drill sergeant
got on my case just for looking tired.
Here are some of our mottos for the platoon:
When called to attention, we say:
Regulate Regulate
Stomp on those who try to hate
throw a bomb in the enemy's face
so BOOM, REGULATE!
Chow motto:
Other platoons try to compete but it's plain to see we can't be beat first to fight never flee now fall into chow so we can eat, hooah!
